"Nocturne" (2007-08)

I have formed my series "Nocturne" into a sort of visual poem, playing not only with the idea of the nocturnal concept, but the complex semantics surrounding the term itself. These "inspired by night" portraits, still-lifes, and landscapes, question the links between iconic imagery and their very relevance within photography and art. While so much of the work in "Nocturne" is object oriented (unique/single editions), often delineating a sense of the precious, other images are roughly captured and reproduced with throwaway, outmoded and transitory processes.

These techniques and concepts recognize both the relevance and absurdity contained within subjects, objects and places. I am artist as monadic entity, highlighting and subverting the aura of "spiritual" importance associated with understanding our existence through photography.
